"Amazingly, it was not the vistas that first captivated my senses, rather it was the sounds. Nothing escapes the Grand Canyon unless it is carried by the river. Each sound reverberates indefinitely off the sheer cliffs, whether it's a flute breaking the silence in Redwall Cavern, the shrill of an osprey, or a joyful yelp of accomplishment bellowing from a fellow expeditioner having survived yet another frothy wall of whitewater.. Most notably though, it's the sound of the water's movement itself that arrests your attention. As if plugged into an amplifier, the slightest interaction between water and rock here creates an intonation that transcends that of any other river I've come to know. Hidden beyond a crook of the Canyon, the smallest of rapids rumbles proudly, heightening your awareness to your surroundings and your primary function in the journey, to paddle.
